Rock Sound
Base · 2–3 days
The practical hub for South Eleuthera: airport, groceries, local food and the easiest base for self-driving. Use it for Ocean Hole, Cathedral Cave and the least complicated version of a first trip.
Tarpum Bay
Base · 1–2 days
A small waterfront fishing settlement with more everyday character than polished tourism. Go for the afternoon catch at the docks, simple fresh-fish meals and an easy local beach stop.
Winding Bay and Cotton Bay
Base · 0.5–4 days
The best compromise for beach-first travelers who still want Rock Sound's supplies within a manageable drive. This is villa country rather than a town, with quiet bays and long stretches of coast.
Green Castle and Whiteland Beach
Short stop · 1 day
Come for the least developed Atlantic shoreline in the south: soft sand, rocky coves and the Blue Window formation near Whiteland Beach. Bring everything you need and treat the sea with respect when swell is up.
Wemyss Bight, Waterford and Deep Creek
Base · 0.5–2 days
The rural southeast is the place to trade open-beach days for mangroves, paddling and quiet back-road scenery. Deep Creek is worth an intentional kayak outing, not a rushed stop between bigger sights.
Bannerman Town and Lighthouse Beach
Short stop · 1 day
South Eleuthera's most dramatic beach-and-cliff landscape: broad sand, caves, reefy water and the old lighthouse. Give it a full day and confirm current access locally rather than trusting old driving directions.
Cape Eleuthera
Base · 1–4 days
The far-southern marina base for fishing, snorkeling, offshore cays and organized boat days. It is the right splurge for people who value boating access over being close to Rock Sound's everyday services.

4 nightsRock Sound (2 days) → Tarpum Bay (1 day) → Winding Bay and Cotton Bay (half day) → Wemyss Bight, Waterford and Deep Creek (half day)
For a first look with one practical base near Rock Sound or Tarpum Bay. Prioritize Ocean Hole and Cathedral Cave, catch the afternoon fishing activity in Tarpum, then use the final full-day drive to see the southeast. Skip Lighthouse Beach and a serious Cape Eleuthera boat day; four nights is not enough for both.

The sensible seven-night version: begin where groceries and backup dinner options exist, then move south rather than repeatedly grinding back up the island. Give Whiteland its own weather-dependent beach day, use Deep Creek for paddling, and leave Lighthouse Beach until you have confirmed access and sea conditions.

10 nightsRock Sound (2 days) → Tarpum Bay (2 days) → Wemyss Bight, Waterford and Deep Creek (2 days) → Bannerman Town and Lighthouse Beach (1 day) → Cape Eleuthera (3 days)
For travelers who want South Eleuthera to feel remote rather than merely underdeveloped. The two-night southeast stay gives Deep Creek kayaking and Lighthouse Beach a proper chance instead of treating them as punishing day trips; Cape Eleuthera then earns three nights for a boat, fishing or Schooner Cays day plus a weather buffer.

14 nightsRock Sound (3 days) → Tarpum Bay (2 days) → Winding Bay and Cotton Bay (4 days) → Bannerman Town and Lighthouse Beach (1 day) → Cape Eleuthera (4 days)
A repeat-visitor route built around slack, not checklist mileage. Start with useful services and fishing-village meals, spend four nights in a beach villa zone for Atlantic and Caribbean-side beach windows, then finish at Cape Eleuthera for offshore days. Lighthouse Beach gets a full committed day, while the extra nights absorb wind, boat cancellations and irregular local opening hours.
