Visas & entry
Most visa-exempt visitors, including UK, EU, Australian and many other passport holders, need an eTA to fly to Canada but not to enter by land or sea; US citizens are generally exempt from both a visitor visa and eTA. Other nationalities need a visitor visa, and all travelers need a valid passport—check official IRCC rules before booking, as requirements change.
Getting in
Getting around
Fly between eastern and western Canada, and between the mainland and Newfoundland; Canada is too large to treat as a surface-transport country. VIA Rail is genuinely useful in the Québec City–Montréal–Ottawa–Toronto corridor, but Toronto–Vancouver is a four-night scenic journey, not efficient transport. Rent a car for the Rockies, Atlantic Canada, Vancouver Island beyond Victoria, the Prairies and Newfoundland; reserve early in summer and factor in insurance, fuel, parking and one-way drop fees.
Money
Canada uses the Canadian dollar (CAD/C$). Cards are accepted almost everywhere, including contactless payments, but keep a little cash for small rural businesses and contingencies. Restaurant tipping is expected: 15–20% before tax is the normal range for sit-down service; tip drivers, guides and hotel staff according to service.

Entry rules change — verify visa requirements for your passport before booking this country.
December–March
A serious winter covers most of the country: bitter cold in the Prairies, Québec and the Rockies, while Vancouver and Victoria are milder but often wet; snow and road disruption are normal outside major cities.
Do not treat this as a general national-parks road-trip season unless you are confident driving in snow; holiday and ski-period prices can be high.
April–May
Spring reaches Vancouver, Victoria, southern Ontario and Montréal first, while the Rockies, higher trails and much of the North remain snowy, muddy or only partly operational.
High-elevation hiking, alpine roads and full summer lake conditions are unreliable; this is the wrong window for a Rockies hiking itinerary.
June–August
Long daylight, warm cities, open campgrounds and the most reliable hiking, lake and coastal-road-trip conditions make this the easiest nationwide travel period.
This is peak price and crowd season: reserve Rockies lodging, national-park campgrounds, Lake Louise/Moraine Lake transport and popular summer ferries well ahead; Western wildfire smoke or closures can force changes.
September–October
September usually brings cooler, stable conditions, fewer family crowds and strong autumn color in Ontario and Québec; mountain weather becomes less predictable and October sees seasonal services start to close.
By October, do not assume mountain roads, campgrounds, boat trips or coastal attractions are still running; build plans around confirmed operating dates.
November
Short days, Pacific rain, cold rain or early snow elsewhere, and the gap between foliage season and dependable ski season make this Canada’s weakest all-round travel month.
Landscapes are rarely at their best, and weather is often dreary rather than dramatically wintry.
Québec Winter Carnival · Usually late January to mid-February · Québec City, Québec
A major draw for winter atmosphere, parades and outdoor events; book central accommodation early and expect higher demand during the festival period.
Calgary Stampede · Usually ten days in early July · Calgary, Alberta
It sharply raises hotel rates, flights and rental-car demand in Calgary; go only if you want rodeo, concerts and a citywide party, otherwise route around it.
Do not look for one national cuisine. Eat regionally: French-Canadian cooking and serious restaurant culture in Québec, immigrant-led dining in Toronto and Vancouver, seafood on the Atlantic, and place-specific Indigenous food experiences sought out on their own terms rather than as a generic tasting-menu category.
Montréal and Québec: Food-driven city dining · French-speaking Québec food culture · Restaurants worth reserving in Montréal
Vancouver: Serious Asian food · Pacific-coast urban dining
Toronto: Caribbean cuisine · Chinese cuisine · Korean cuisine · Italian cuisine · Middle Eastern cuisine】【:】【“】【assistant final 彩神争霸怎么 გაგრძელება ̄第四色json_string: սխալ? We need valid JSON. Continue.
