Abeid Amani Karume International Airport: It is about 5 km south of Zanzibar City. Take a pre-agreed private taxi to Stone Town: roughly 20–30 minutes and about US$30 is the going starting point quoted for airport transfers. There is no metro or dependable airport rail link; do not let an airport tout turn a short city transfer into a resort-rate excursion. Confirm the fare before bags go in the car.
Zanzibar Ferry Terminal, Stone Town: For Dar es Salaam, use a scheduled fast ferry/catamaran from an established operator such as Azam Marine rather than a private boat or a broker’s ‘special’ service. The crossing is about 2 hours and Azam’s non-resident fare has been around US$35; arrive at least 30 minutes early for security, luggage and immigration. The terminal is on Stone Town’s waterfront, walkable to most Old Town hotels. At the Dar terminal, ignore unsolicited porters and go straight to the named operator’s ticket office.
